Nkqubela FM Radio Station, also known as (KQ FM 97.0) prides itself in promoting community businesses that have a positive impact in the community and its surrounding areas. The station writes this proposal as we would like to enhance your foothold to many areas of the Eastern Cape that we cover.

Station Profile

Nkqubela Community Radio Station is based in KwaDwesi Township at the Ziyabuya Centre in the Nelson Mandela Bay. The station was granted its broadcasting licence in 2003 and started to be on Air 2004, May the 8th. The transmission radius of the station is 100km. The broadcast languages are predominantly Xhosa 60 %, English 30% and Afrikaans 10%.

Although our broadcast footprint is 100 kilometres, we can reach areas as far as Kirkwood, Jeffery’s Bay and the outskirts of Nelson Mandela Bay. As the Station we aim to entertain, inform, and educate towards development of the coverage areas.

Brief

Nkqubela FM has a mass following in black communities. The station attracts wide spectrum of listeners from your working professionals, entrepreneurs, and those of semi-professional skilled workers who are loyal KQfm listeners.
Our listeners have built a loyal and trustworthy relationship with the radio station and that relationship have led to numerous engagements that have been successful.

The station intends to be the voice of Nelson Mandela Bay communities, which provides accurate, credible, realistic, and developmental information to the communities we serve.

Our Mission

KQ FM strives to facilitate effective community development, through a communication forum that disseminates information on issues that will help improve the quality life of Nelson Mandela Bay.

Staff Component

The station has a fulltime Management team which consist of a Station Manager, Programmer Manager, Marketing Manager, Finance & Administration Officer, and the staff which amounts to 26 people who are: News Readers, Journalists, Presenters and Producers.

Ownership & Control

The Station is a community project owned and controlled by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. The Board of Trustees are elected from individuals who are involved in existing community projects in the region and other sectors within the Nelson Mandela Bay communities. This is done through a community and includes all government stakeholders, NGO’s, Community Based Organization and Faith-based structures.

Broadcast Format

Program
The radio station has a programming format of 60% talk and 40% music in the daily broadcast. It shall broadcast South African music content of 40% daily. Nkqubela Community Radio shall broadcast a total of 60 minutes of local news, 45 minutes of national news and 30 minutes of international news per day.
